Supplement Available to Agenda for Synod 2016

Supplemental materials to the Agenda for Synod 2016 are now available on the Synod Resources page or the Synod 2016 web page, where you can also sign up to receive Synod News.

This year’s synod, which is the annual leadership meeting of the Christian Reformed Church, will convene at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 10, in joint worship with the conferees of Engage 2016: A Multiethnic Gathering in the College Chapel on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The opening business session of synod will begin at 9 a.m. on June 10 in the Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Synod 2016 will run through noon, Friday, June 17 at Calvin College.

Issues coming before synod include a majority report, a minority report and several overtures relating to providing pastoral advice and care in light of the legalization of same-sex marriage.

There is also a synodical report on the Doctrine of Discovery, the doctrine that many settlers of European descent used when removing Indigenous people from their ancestral lands in North America. In addition, there is a report that looks at religious persecution around the world.
