Professor of the Year Named at Calvin

May 26, 2009

Calvin College professor of business Cal Jen is the class of 2009's pick for the Professor of the Year Award. The honor has been given out annually for the past 12 years.

Honored last weekend during commencement activities at the college in Grand Rapids, Mich., Jen says he is humbled by the award. Receiving it has inspired him to become even a better teacher.

"The award will encourage me to figure out how to reach students even more, deeper, to teach them adequately, to make it fun, to make it enjoyable," said Jen. "I am always thinking about how I can make every class period memorable. How can I draw each student closer to God?"

Jen has taught in the business department at Calvin for the past four years. Prior to that, he taught architecture for eight years in the engineering department and owned the architecture firm AMDG.

Jen grew up in Taiwan, where his parents served as missionaries. His father graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary and named Jen after the school.

For presumably the first time ever, Calvin’s prestigious Professor of the Year award went to a professor who is named after the college.
