Guide to Synod 2026’s Agenda

June 10, 2026

Synod 2026 opened with a convening
session online May 27 at 7 p.m. (EDT). The in-person gathering of synod will start this Friday, June 12, at 8:15 a.m. in the Calvin Chapel on the campus of Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich. All are welcome to attend or watch the proceedings online.

The agenda for this year’s synod includes three task force reports, Resonate’s 10-year church planting plan, numerous ministry and other reports, 36 overtures, and two communications from classes, councils, and individuals (Agenda for Synod 2026Agenda Supplement). To help clarify the topics to be discussed at this year’s synod, a guide has been provided, in accordance with a recommendation by the Synod Review Task Force in 2019 (see Acts of Synod 2019, p. 809).

In addition to describing and summarizing this year’s overtures and communications, the guide also outlines conversations that will need to take place regarding multisite churches, defining membership, Church Order procedures to discipline officebearers, and the 10-year plan for church planting, as well as reports from synod’s standing committees, agencies, and leadership groups.

“We come to the discussions of the day and the decisions that will be made with a spirit of prayer,” said Zachary King, general secretary of the CRCNA. “We pray for discernment and God’s guidance as we approach another synod, and we know he is faithful.”

Synod 2026 gathers with the theme of worship and prayer “Founded on God’s Faithfulness” and based in the Psalms. The prayer initiatives for this year's synod include a Pre-Synod Prayer Gathering and Prayer Walk at Calvin University, 40 Days of Prayer in advance of synod, Daily Prayer Guides, early morning prayer at synod, Facebook prayer during synod, prayer intercessors at synod, and worship and prayer during synod.
