New Video Features Destination Church

December 3, 2014

Destination Church in St. Thomas, Ontario has the mission of taking the “city for God in a brand new way,” says Pastor Beth Fellinger in a new video telling the story of her church.

“We are ready to take the risk for whatever it takes to move God forward in this community.”

Destination was planted in 2011 in partnership with Fellowship Christian Reformed Church and Christian Reformed Home Missions.

The video intermixes an interview with Fellinger with scenes of putting up the signs for the church, located in a former bar/restaurant. It also shows the inside of the church, still set up with tables and chairs that people sit and stand at during worship.

Members of the church, consisting of people from all ranges of the social life in St. Thomas, are also interviewed.

At the end of the video, which shows God's spirit stirring in the CRC denomination and local churches, words appear:

Imagine a ragtag collection of surrendered and transformed people who love God and others. They are mesmerized by the idea that this is not about them, but all about Jesus.   They are transfixed by His story and His heart for their city. They are seed throwers and fire starters, hope peddlers and grace-givers, risk takers and dreamers, young and old......

Fellinger was the keynote speaker at the October 2014 Day of Encouragement in Ancaster, Ontario and hosted by Diaconal Ministries Canada and Home Missions. The theme for the Day of Encouragement was "Loving Your City."

The video was also shown at the recent Glocal Summit, a gathering of mission-centered church leaders who met in Los Angeles to listen, learn and reflect about what God is already doing in our communities and discern  how churches might address the opportunities and challenges to be missional in culturally diverse communities, says James VanderLaan, Director of Advancement for Home Missions.
