Web Links Students with Preaching Opportunities
– On its website, Calvin Theological Seminary has just uploaded a new program to make it easier to link seminary students with churches that need someone to preach for a service.
The link on the website is named Preaching Opportunities/Pulpit Supply. It will give students password-protected access to see what opportunities are out there to preach. Similarly, it gives churches the chance to see what Master of Divinity students are available to fill the pulpit and give a sermon.
Students in the Master of Divinity program at Calvin Theological Seminary have a sermon evaluation requirement for graduation. After being licensed to preach in the CRC, the students are able to preach in CRC churches.
They need to receive at least two evaluations from a service for their sermon to count towards their sermon evaluation requirement. A student needs to have two groups of three (or six total) sermon evaluations received to complete the requirement.
“To streamline this process, our new preaching opportunities/pulpit supply website is available for churches to post their pulpit supply requests and students to access those preaching opportunities in a timely fashion. This site is monitored by our office,” says Chris Wright, administrative coordinator of the seminary’s Ministry Formation Office.
After a church submits its form, the request will be viewed by students who are licensed to preach. If a church has a special request or needs special consideration, it should not fill out this form but contact the administrative coordinator in the Ministry Formation Office.
