August 6, 2009

Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill., the site of the Christian Reformed Church’s Synod 2009 and site for Synod 2010, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a range of activities and remembrances.

In 1959, a few visionaries purchased a spacious place—a golf course—so that young men and women could take their first step toward their future callings as Christians on a new college campus close to the amenities and experiential learning opportunities of Chicago.

Trinity Christian College's first academic year began onSeptember 29, 1959, with a student body of 37 students and five full-time faculty members.

In the last nine years, Trinity's enrollment has more than doubled. The Fall 2008 total enrollment has reached 1,404 students, including 345 in adult studies, 40 in the Semester in Spain program in Seville, and 1,019 in the traditional undergraduate program.

In "America’s Best Colleges" for 2009, U.S.News & World Report ranked Trinity No. 27 among baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest and No. 10 in the area of Racial Diversity: Baccalaureate Colleges (Midwest).

The College commemorates its 50th anniversary during Jubilee! Weekend October 2-4. Jubilee! will begin with a formal dinner celebration at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom in Chicago, continue through the weekend with various campus events planned in conjunction with October’s Homecoming, and will  conclude with a community-wide worship service on Sunday afternoon. Formal reservations will be required for dinner on Friday night at Navy Pier. For more information, visit: http://www.trnty.edu/.
