Selah to Perform Benefit Concert for CRWRC

May 11, 2007

Fivetime Gospel Music Association award-winning group Selah, will perform a benefit concert in support of the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) next month.

The June 9 concert at Sunshine Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Mich., will support CRWRC’s international AIDS response in more than a dozen countries around the world.

A favorite of audiences in the West Michigan area, Selah has six successful recordings and album sales of more than a million copies. The group says their success is a testament to artistic authenticity—and God's grace—as their growing ministry impacts people all over the world.

Selah vocal artist, Todd Smith, raised by missionary parents in Bandundu province in the Congo, is deeply familiar with the challenges of living in the third world.

"Life is so hard there," Smith says. "There's not a lot of reason to hope, so it's extremely important to say, 'Hold on to the promises of God - they're life changing.'"

While international ministry is clearly near the heart of Selah's music, CRWRC's AIDS response programs are also bringing that hope and life-change to thousands of people living with AIDS and their families.

In Zambia, one hard-working farmer cares for AIDS orphans in his own home and also volunteers for the Orphan Care Project with CRWRC partner, the Reformed Church in Zambia.

Ephriam Ngoma is saving the lives of AIDS orphans by organizing care-giving families in to groups that generate and share their resources.

In just one of these groups, 12 couples are caring for 76 children orphaned by AIDS.

"It's more children than the couples can support individually, so they have decided to work together to adequately support those in their care," Ngoma explains. "Projects like animal husbandry, crop diversification, and organic fertilizers are helping many families provide their children with the nutrient-rich food supplements they need for good health and opportunities for the children to be educated."

CRWRC wants to help more families in the developing world who are affected by AIDS care adequately for themselves and the AIDS orphans in their lives in Zambia and around the world.

On June 9, West Michigan families can enjoy a great evening of inspiring music from Selah, and support families around the world who are devastated by AIDS through CRWRC.
