Sea to Sea Nearing End
Riders on the Sea to Sea bicycle tour are closing in on completing their nine-week, 3,900-mile, transcontinental bicycle tour.
Participants are currently pedaling the final legs of their journey through Ontario.
They will enter Quebec on Saturday, spend Sunday night in Saint Philippe, south of Montreal, and enter Ausable Chasm, New York on Monday. They will then ride through New York, arriving in New York City on Aug. 23.
A variety of events, including having riders dip their tires into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24. The bike tour ends with a service at Mount Lorreto Church in Staten Island on Sunday.
The bike ride serves to raise awareness and funds for those living in poverty around the world. Among others, it is being hosted by the Reformed Church in America, the business ministry Partners Worldwide, and the Christian Reformed Church’s disaster response and development agency World Renew.
The Tour has attracted participants young and old from many churches, organizations and communities.
The tour began June 22, 2013, in Los Angeles.
