Prayers Asked for Central African Republic
Rev. Paul Mpindi, Back to God Ministries French outreach leader, asks for urgent prayers for the Central African Republic (CAR).
Since a rebel takeover in March, CAR has been in a state of unrest. Both the countryside and capital city of Bangui have experienced violence and many crimes, including the murder of a Bible correspondence leader in Back to God Ministries’ French discipleship program.
“The country has been descending into chaos,” says Mpindi.
At this time, most security experts agree that there is a potential for genocide between Muslims and Christians. This stands as a threat not only for CAR, which has a 90 percent Christian population, but also for the entire central African region.
The US state department estimates that nearly 400,000 people have been displaced and 68,000 have fled to neighbouring countries since interim president, Michel Djotodia, lost control of his loose coalition of warlords earlier this year.
“So far, our team in Bangui, the capital city, is doing fine,” adds Mpindi, “but we have them on high alert. Our ministry center is serving some of the people who have lost their loved ones.”
France is currently seeking permission from the United Nations to send troops additional to CAR in order to prevent further attacks. Diplomats hope to hear a decision by Nov. 29.
Mpindi asks for prayers of peace and comfort for the people there. “Please pray that the Lord may use our daily radio broadcast and follow-up ministry to help people in CAR find peace with God, and peace with one another.”
