Poem Highlights Synod Luncheon
A synod luncheon honoring retirees was highlighted by delegate Rod Hugen, who recounted his journey from Classis Arizona to Ancaster, Ontario, in rhyming verse (watch video recording).
After lunch, CRWRC gave a presentation for delegates celebrating its 50th anniversary, which included recognizing past and present staff, board members, and supporters.
Delegates then spent some time discussing a report from the Task Force to Study Structure and Culture. The task force was appointed by Synod 2011 to assess and make recommendations about the denomination’s administrative structure, following the resignations of two top executives.
Synod agreed to extend the task force’s mandate from one year to four years to allow it time to properly complete its work, including addressing the issue of the denomination’s bi-national character.
Synod agreed on a proposed job description for the future executive director’s role, and put in place a search process that includes a timeline of bringing a nominee to Synod 2013.
Just before dinner, delegates discussed whether to commission a study about the difference between the mission of the church as institution and as organism. Synod has not yet reached a decision on the matter.
Tonight, synod takes up the report from the task force on creation stewardship.
