Pizza Brought Them to Christ

March 6, 2008

You might say it was pizza that first brought them to Christ. Well, okay, it wasn’t exactly the pizza, but God is using the Spotlight ministry in amazing ways to reach people with the gospel.

Spotlight is a simplified English radio and Internet ministry produced in partnership with The Back to God Hour, Words of Hope and Feba radio. The program attracts listeners from all over the world who desire to learn English.

The attraction to Spotlight is its style of speaking slowly using a special limited vocabulary. Programs cover a wide variety of topics in order to create interest for listeners of all backgrounds, while presenting them with gospel messages and themes. Recordings and transcripts are also available at www.spotlightradio.net.

HCJB World Radio partners in Ecuador have taken the Spotlight ministry one step further. In various locations, partner churches sponsor weekly meetings for people who want to improve their English. Listeners come—and bring their friends—for fellowship and food. But mostly they come to listen to Spotlight recordings and to practice speaking English.

At a meeting where the topic was pizza, two people came to the Spotlight listener club out of curiosity. Even though there was no real pizza to eat, but simply the topic to discuss, they ended by committing their lives to Christ.

During the Christmas holidays, 150 people showed up to listen to a recording about “Christmas Gifts.” Five people came to Christ that night.

Listeners from India, Vietnam, Slovakia, Chile and at least 50 other countries have written to say that the Spotlight ministry is helping them better understand God’s world. And when they write to say they have committed their lives to the Lord, there is great cause to celebrate.

God can use anything – even the topic of pizza – to reach people.
