Calgary Youth Plans Bike Ride for Chile

June 11, 2010

Steven Brennan wants to raise funds for survivors of the massive earthquake that hit Chile in early February.

That in itself is not necessarily out of the ordinary. No doubt, numbers of people are troubled by the devastation brought about by the 8.8 on the Richter scale earthquake and want to help.

What makes Steven special?

Simple: The desire and the determination to help Chile comes from a five-year-old kindergartener at Sam Livingston School in Calgary, Alberta

“I want to bike to raise money for people in Chile. I have seen lots of people and kids raise money for people in Haiti and I got the idea that I can raise money by biking,” he says. Haiti was struck by an earthquake in January of this year.

“I want to give it to people in Chile, though, because they also had an earthquake and they also need our help.”

His plan, he says, is to ride his bike 20 km on Tuesday, June 22, after school.

“I want to bike from school to my daddy’s work (which might be more than 20 km actually). I hope you will support me and the victims of the earthquake in Chile, through CRWRC,” he says. So far, Stephen has raised $40 toward a goal of $500.

CRWRC is working with partners and networks on the ground in Chile to provide aid to those in need.

The bike-riding youngster asks people to please make their donation toward his bike-a-thon here.
