Andy Crouch to Speak at Redeemer
Andy Crouch, the author of an award-winning book that calls on Christians to engage in culture, will be the featured speaker for Redeemer University College’s upcoming 2014 World and Our Calling Lectures.
Crouch will speak on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and again on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Redeemer’s Auditorium. Both lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Recovering Our Creative Calling is the title of his first lecture. It will draw on themes featured in his influential book Culture Making: Redeeming the Gift of Our Creative Calling.
Published in 2008, the bookwas named Christianity Today’s Book Award for Christianity and Culture. It was also listed as one of the best books of that year by Publishers Weekly, Relevant, Outreach and Leadership.
In the book, he addresses the question: “How can we recover a more deeply Christian, and deeply human, posture of creativity?”
His second lecture, Redeeming the Gift of Power, comes from the subtitle of Playing God: Redeeming the Gift of Power, which was published in October 2013.
This book looks at how power corrupts, causing people to abuse their power and play God in the lives of others.
Besides being an author, Crouch is a classically trained musician who uses a range of music styles when leading worship and praise. He is also an editor at Christianity Today and served for 10 years as a minister for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Harvard University.
According to a Redeemer press release, The 2014 World and Our Calling Lectures explore different facets of the calling that Christians have to be engaged with culture. The goal is to present lectures that will enable students and others to know better and to relish the beauty of the cultural world, as it can be known in relation to the redemptive presence of Jesus Christ.
