Abundance & Scarcity | Listen Today

May 30, 2025

We're excited to share season 10 of the Do Justice podcast, we’re diving into a theme that calls us to reimagine how we think about abundance, scarcity, and the global challenges we face today.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when we hear about global crises—debt, poverty, and political instability. Often, we’re tempted to think, “It’s too big, too messy, and I don’t have enough to make a difference.” But what if there’s a different way to look at these challenges? What if there’s an economy of abundance—rooted in hope, not scarcity—that can empower us to address these problems in sustainable, impactful ways?

This season of Do Justice we’ll explore how a theology of abundance can shape the way we engage with international aid, sustainable development, and debt justice.

We’ll hear stories from the field—stories of progress, challenges, and hope—and we’ll challenge common myths that can paralyze us from taking action. Myths like:

  • There’s not enough to go around.
  • Politics are too messy to make a difference.
  • The problem is too big; my contribution won’t matter.

But here’s the truth: When we embrace an economy of abundance, we can see beyond ourselves and discover how even small actions can have a big impact.

Episode Highlights: Here’s a glimpse of what’s coming up this season:

  • International Aid in Action: Andy Harrington from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank will share how strategic investments in food security and sustainable development are changing lives and communities.
  • Debt Cancellation: Dean Dettloff from KAIROS will help us unpack the history of global debt, the Jubilee 2000 movement, and what’s at stake in today’s push for debt justice.
  • Indigenous Ministry and Abundance: We’ll hear from Bert Adema at the Indigenous Christian Fellowship about how abundance shows up in urban Indigenous ministry.
  • Core Humanitarian Standards: What are the global principles that guide effective and ethical humanitarian aid? We’ll talk with experts in the field

Each episode will feature different voices and perspectives, but we’ll ask each guest the same question:

In your work, how have you seen hope and abundance emerge in situations that seem defined by scarcity or crisis?

We hope this season will inspire and encourage you. When we practice an economy of abundance—in our churches, communities, and global partnerships—we can reflect God’s vision of flourishing for all. Let’s move from a mindset of scarcity to a mindset of abundance and discover together how hope can flourish in even the most troubled times.

Thank you for listening to Do Justice. We’ll see you next time.
