Thrive Creates Spaces for Church Administrators

May 20, 2026

Church administrators play an essential role in the health and day-to-day ministry of a congregation. Depending on the size of a church, that role may belong to one person or to an entire team. Either way, these individuals are often serving behind the scenes, carrying a wide range of responsibilities that keep ministry moving forward.

Yet despite the importance of their work, church admins often have limited opportunities for peer connection, shared learning, or support from others who understand the unique nature of their role.

To better support these leaders, Thrive is piloting a series of virtual regional conversations for church administrators. These gatherings are designed to resource, encourage, and connect admins who may not otherwise have regular opportunities to engage with peers in similar roles.

Why Thrive Created the Series

As the congregational support agency of the CRCNA, Thrive exists to equip congregations and ministry leaders in all areas of church life. Church administrators play a vital role in ministry, yet their contributions can often go unnoticed. Thrive saw an opportunity to help fill that gap.

Admins know the ins and outs of their church communities. From coordinating weekly bulletins to helping facilitate events and communications, they are often the steady hands keeping ministry operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

While pastors, deacons, and other church leaders may have regular opportunities to connect outside their local context, that kind of interaction can be much rarer for church administrators.

These gatherings are intended to change that. They are not simply training sessions but spaces where admins can connect, share experiences, learn practical skills, and find encouragement in their work.

What We’re Seeing in Canada

The first series of admin gatherings has centered on ShineOnline, a recently released social media course designed specifically for CRCNA church administrators.

“It’s been encouraging to connect with so many admins and to hear feedback on how Shine Online is helping them improve their social media strategy and make their jobs easier,” said Kristen Parker, creator of ShineOnline.

Each gathering begins with introductions and informal connections before moving into a short presentation related to the course material. From there, participants engage in peer conversations around shared experiences and practical challenges connected to the course topics.

So far, two gatherings have taken place in Canada. Many participants have expressed excitement about ShineOnline and gratitude for the opportunity to connect with peers who understand the realities of church administration.

The gatherings also provide an opportunity for administrators to connect with their regional connector. Each of the CRCNA’s six regions has a designated connector who serves as a bridge between Thrive and local congregations.

Canada East connector Becky Jones said, “I am so impressed with the work church administrators do. The breadth of their responsibilities is unlimited! However, I also realize that there is often a degree of isolation in the role. I am so thankful that we are able to host gatherings for church administrators. Not only are the events designed to provide support in their role, but I truly love being able to see their faces and watch them interact with one another!”

Regional connectors listen, equip, and help church leaders access resources and support from Thrive.

What’s Next: U.S. Regional Gatherings

Thrive will host four gatherings across the United States over the next several weeks:

  • Midwest — Henry Meurs — May 21
  • U.S. West — Elaine Lee — June 3
  • Great Lakes — Idella Winfield — June 4
  • U.S. East — Sandra Gonzalez — June 11

Each gathering will take place at 1 p.m. in its respective time zone, and each will last for one hour.

Regional connector Henry Meurs shared his excitement for the upcoming conversations:

“I’m really looking forward to bringing U.S. administrators together to show them they aren’t alone in this work. I’m excited to help administrators connect around shared goals and to ensure they leave not only with new digital skills but also with the encouragement and collective wisdom of a peer network that truly supports their ministry.”

Attendees can expect the same kind of environment already experienced in Canada: one with connection, practical support, and shared learning.

These gatherings are open to anyone who serves in an administrative capacity within their church context, even if “administrator” is not their official title.

Persons interested in attending a gathering in their region are encouraged to reach out to their regional connector.

Connecting with the regional connector in your area can also open the door to future communications about upcoming admin gatherings, new topics, and other helpful resources related to church administration.

Thrive’s Ongoing Commitment

Thrive remains committed to supporting people who support the church.

The work of church administrators is deeply valuable to the health and effectiveness of every congregation. These gatherings are intended to be only the beginning of how Thrive continues to resource, encourage, and equip admins in meaningful ways.

An important part of that commitment includes listening directly to administrators themselves.
