'Family Fire' Helps Families
When Chrissie felt her marriage slipping into irreparable damage, she asked her Family Fire Facebook friends to pray for her and her family.
Chrissie wrote, “My husband is so lost. He’s so far from me and our three kids (ages 6, 2 and 9 months). He has treated us horribly and broken so many of God’s commandments. Please pray for his return to us as the husband and father God called him to be.”
Rev. Steven and Deb Koster, who launched the Family Fire ministry in 2010, added their prayers to the comments and encouragement that other Facebook friends were giving this hurting young mom.
“Our online community came together to support Chrissie as we addressed the difficult issues her family was experiencing,” says Deb, who monitors the Facebook page.
Family Fire, a ministry of ReFrame Media, the English outreach of Back to God Ministries International, offers resources, hope and practical encouragement to many families on their website and Facebook pages.
Others who have come to Family Fire for help include a woman with an abusive husband, a stepmom learning how to live in a blended family, and a dad who wanted to learn how to be a strong spiritual leader in his home.
“We receive lots of comments from Christians who want help developing God’s purpose for their families,” explains Deb. “But we also have several followers who are atheists.
“Sometimes they respectfully disagree with us. We pray for them and hope they keep reading so they can come to know God in their families.”
Readers like Mel requested advice on how to show God’s love to their child who is gay. Julie asked how she could win God’s favor. Rudy wanted to know the difference between hope and faith.
“All of these conversations give us an opportunity to point people to God’s grace and his word,” notes Steven. “Together we explore the spiritual, emotional and physical aspects of living as a Spirit-fired family.”
