Delegates Enjoy Day of Worship

June 10, 2012

It was quiet on Sunday morning at Redeemer University College as many delegates to Synod 2012 worshipped in local churches.

Re:kindle, the young adult leadership summit, wrapped up on Saturday (see story). Delegates spent the rest of Saturday in advisory committee meetings.

On Sunday afternoon, delegates and others gathered at Ancaster (Ontario) Christian Reformed Church for a service of prayer and praise, led by Rev. Bill Veenstra.

After supper, delegates were invited to Meadowlands Fellowship CRC, near the Redeemer campus, for a community-wide festival of song led by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship.

On Monday morning, delegates will gather again in plenary session. After opening worship, delegates will go into executive session to receive a report from the denomination’s judicial code committee about a conflict involving the Maranatha CRC in Belleville, Ontario, and Classis Quinte. (Executive sessions are open only to delegates and advisers, to deal with confidential material, and will not be webcast.)

Following that, delegates will start taking up reports from advisory committees as they become available.

Monday will include a presentation by the CRC’s Canadian Ministries.

In the evening, synod will interview Dr. Michael Le Roy, president-elect of Calvin College, and Dr. Michael Goheen, a candidate to become a professor at Calvin Theological Seminary.

On the synod schedule for the remainder of the week:

  • Greetings from fraternal delegates, Tuesday at 11 a.m.
  • Discussion of the Belhar Confession, Tuesday at 7 p.m.
  • Discussion of the Creation Stewardship report, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
