Back to God Hour Goes “YouTube”
YouTube is one of the hottest websites in today’s media world. Potentially within hours of posting a new video, email links are flying through cyberspace attracting viewers to the latest posting.
So, in the tradition of claiming every corner of the world for Christ, one of The Back to God Hour’s media partners is advantage of this free outlet to show what God is doing through worldwide media outreach.
“It’s a powerful, concrete picture of our ESL [English as a Second Language] ministry taking root and bearing fruit,” said Mike Geertsma, The Back to God Hour’s lead producer for Specialized English programming.
The Back to God Hour partners with Words of Hope and Feba Radio to produce a daily 15-minute radio program for people who want to learn or improve their English. An estimated 375 million people worldwide use English as a second language. Because English is increasingly the language of business and education, people believe that they can improve their lives and be more competitive in the global market by learning English.
Using a simplified vocabulary and speaking slowly and clearly, the program introduces topics that appeal to international listeners. Christian values are presented within the context of the topic. Churches in Quito, Ecuador have established Listeners Clubs for people who want to get together and practice English.
“The goal is to build audiences and deepen relationships based on common interests, finding natural ways to increasingly present the gospel in word and deed,” explains Rev. Steven Koster, BTGH English ministry leader.
