Justice Prayers - May 27, 2026

May 27, 2026
A river rushing through a forest

All of your ways are peace
All of your ways are peace
Though we are pressed on ev'ry side
We trust that you are peace

All of your words are true
All of your words are true
Though we have heard so many lies
We trust your words are true

All of your ways are just
All of your ways are just
Though we may say it through our tears
We trust that you are just

- The Porters Gate, lyrics for All of Your Ways are Peace

Wildfire Evacuations and Indigenous Communities in Canada

As wildfire season intensifies across parts of Canada, thousands of people have again been displaced from their homes, with Indigenous and northern communities disproportionately affected. Leaders from First Nations communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario continue calling attention to gaps in emergency infrastructure, evacuation support, and long-term climate resilience as families face repeated displacement and uncertainty.

God, we pray for peace on earth. We know that creation is groaning and that the Spirit also groans on our behalf. We pray that those who continue to be impacted by natural disasters will be provided immediate safety as well as long-term systemic solutions to protect their wellbeing.

Political Violence and Public Safety After White House Shooting

Over the weekend, a gunman opened fire near a Secret Service checkpoint outside the White House, prompting a rapid security response and renewed concerns about political violence, mental health crises, and public safety in the United States. The suspect was killed after exchanging gunfire with officers, and a bystander was injured during the incident. The shooting follows several recent security threats involving public officials and has raised broader concerns about fear, polarization, and violence in civic life.

Lord, we long for a world free from violence in all of its forms. Grant us the courage to be peacemakers in a world bent towards retaliation. Give us a stubborn and persevering commitment to seeing the image of God in every one of our neighbors.

Global Hunger and Humanitarian Aid

Humanitarian agencies warn that hunger is increasingly being used as a weapon in regions affected by war and instability, leaving millions vulnerable to famine, displacement, and deepening poverty. Aid workers continue risking their lives to provide food, medicine, and shelter in areas where conflict and political decisions intensify human suffering.

God who multiplied loaves and fishes: we know that you do not desire for your people to be hungry. We pray for protection of those people and organizations who risk their lives to ensure another is fed. We pray for the nourishment of the bodies you have created, that they will not be forced to endure additional suffering.
