Justice Prayers - June 18, 2025

June 18, 2025

“Creator Sets Free (Jesus) came alongside them as they walked, but their eyes were kept from seeing who he was.” - Luke 24:15-16 FNV

Israel and Iran
Israel has launched its most direct and aggressive assault on Iran to date, targeting nuclear and military sites, assassinating top commanders, and killing nuclear scientists. This campaign, spearheaded by Prime Minister Netanyahu, aims to cripple Iran's nuclear capabilities and destabilize its regime; a long-standing Israeli objective. Despite the scope of the attack, experts doubt it will fully dismantle Iran’s dispersed nuclear program. Trump’s social media commentary suggested that the attack was due to Iran’s refusal to negotiate and has floated the idea of renewed diplomacy. The conflict signals a dangerous escalation in a multi-front war Israel has been waging since late 2023 causing more death, more instability, and more chaos.

God of all nations, we grieve the violence and suffering in the Middle East. Soften hearts bent on destruction. Let diplomacy rise where weapons now speak. Protect the innocent, heal the wounded, and grant wisdom to leaders on every side. May justice and mercy embrace, and may swords be turned into plowshares. We long for your peace to reign.

UN Ocean Conference

At the United Nations Ocean Conference held in Nice from June 9 to 13, global leaders and scientists reaffirmed their dedication to ocean conservation  A central focus was the need to put into action the legally binding agreement to protect international waters and to meet the global goal of safeguarding 30 percent of the world’s oceans by the year 2030. More than 20 new protected marine areas were announced, and French Polynesia designated nearly five million square kilometers as a fully protected zone. Although financial pledges remain well below the estimated 175 billion dollars needed each year, several international banks and organizations committed billions. Fifty countries have ratified the treaty so far, with hopes it will be enforced by early 2026.

Creator of earth and sea, stir compassion in us to protect your oceans. Strengthen global resolve to end destructive practices of harmful fishing methods and deep-sea mining. and help us to embrace care for marine life. May leaders be bold, communities empowered, and waters healed. Let treaties be honoured, goals fulfilled, and ecosystems renewed. Breathe peace and balance into the deep. We pray for justice for creation. Amen.

US Asylum Seekers

A U.S. federal appeals court recently ruled that Silvana De Souza Silva, who fled Brazil after facing harrowing threats due to her Candomblé faith, is permitted to seek asylum in the United States. She endured harassment, vandalism, job discrimination, and even armed death threats when a man held a gun to her head shouting “witch.” Initially deemed mere discrimination, the court recognized these acts as religious persecution, ordering reconsideration of her case. This marks a significant victory for immigrant religious freedom, underscoring that violent threats and faith-based oppression qualify for asylum protections. The decision may pave the way for broader recognition of religious justice in immigration law.

Lord of truth and mercy, we pray for Silvana and all who suffer for their beliefs. Defend freedom of conscience, and protect those in danger. As we uphold liberty, we also pray that through kindness, truth, and witness, every heart may come to know the hope and salvation found in Jesus Christ. Let love lead, and justice prevail.
