Justice Prayers - August 5, 2026
Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
- Matt Redman “Blessed Be Your Name”
Growing Toll of Scams on Vulnerable Communities
Financial scams and fraudulent schemes are escalating rapidly, increasingly targeting seniors, newcomers, and individuals living on fixed incomes. From sophisticated AI-generated phone calls impersonating family members to deceptive online investment and housing schemes, scammers exploit trust, isolation, and economic anxiety.
For vulnerable households, the impact extends far beyond financial loss—it often leads to severe emotional trauma, an erosion of trust, loss of independence, and the sudden inability to afford basic necessities like housing and medicine. Protecting neighbours requires both systemic digital safeguards and compassionate, vigilant community support.
God, hearts break for those who have been targeted, deceived, and exploited by financial scams. We pray for comfort for individuals carrying the deep weight of betrayal, anxiety, and shame. Grant wisdom and discernment to community members, church leaders, and lawmakers as they work to expose predatory schemes, safeguard the vulnerable, and restore stolen resources.
Global Trade Policy and Forced Labor
A coalition of twenty-five U.S. states has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade to challenge newly enacted 10-12.5% tariffs on goods from 60 trading partners, including Canada and the European Union. While the administration states the policy uses federal trade authority to address forced labor practices in global supply chains, the lawsuit contends the measures exceed executive authority and create economic instability for businesses and working families. The legal dispute highlights the complex intersection of international trade policy, human rights standards, and economic predictability in a global market.
God, we lift up the leaders, lawmakers, and trade officials who navigate complex global economic policies. Grant discernment to judicial systems and governing authorities as they seek truth, fairness, and the protection of fundamental human rights across international supply chains. Protect workers worldwide from exploitation and forced labor, and guide leaders toward trade agreements that foster economic stability, safeguard vulnerable populations, and promote the common good.
Mass Incarceration
Mass incarceration continues to present social, ethical, and human challenges across North America. Millions of individuals—disproportionately affecting racialized communities, low-income families, and those struggling with untreated mental illness or substance use—remain caught within criminal justice systems that often prioritize punitive measures over rehabilitation.
The consequences extend beyond prison walls, straining families, limiting employment opportunities, and perpetuating cycles of poverty and instability. Transforming these systems requires a commitment to restorative justice, systemic reform, and investment in community-based support that honours human dignity.
God of mercy and transformation, bring comfort to families separated by prison walls, and grant hope, healing, and redemption to those inside. Give lawmakers and leaders wisdom to build justice systems rooted in restoration rather than punishment. Help communities break cycles of harm, address inequality, and offer second chances to every person.
