When Thaleia and Riley’s 10-year-old son was annoyed by a boastful boy at summer camp, he practiced principles he learned from Grandpa Anole on his favorite radio program, Kids Corner.
“He learned the importance of being kind and patient with people,” says Riley.
“The Kids Corner episode ‘Tommy Twotoad’ helped him have patience and show kindness to someone who is unintentionally annoying. That can often be difficult for kids—or adults.”
Kids Corner is produced by ReFrame Media, the English outreach of Back to God Ministries International.
Thaleia says, "Our children are obsessed with Kids Corner! Sometimes they get so involved they don't do their schoolwork or they try to listen at meal-time. Drives us parents a little crazy, but we love the character qualities and values.”
Every Saturday their son and his sister beg to check the website to see if the new episode is up. Then they listen three, four or more times.
“They even printed out pictures of the characters and made puppets so they can act out the stories,” says Thaleia, who asked that the children’s real names not be used.
Thaleia, who blogs about free resources for parents, discovered Kids Corner while searching the web.
“I knew from looking at the (Kids Corner) website that it would be something I would want my children to experience, and it would be safe. I am very confident that Kids Corner is really reaching the hearts and minds of my children in a fun and educational way.”
Eldest and Princess — the names she gives to her son and daughter on her website — even blogged about why they like Kids Corner.
“I am always curious to see what the next adventure will be,” Eldest posted. “There are all kinds of crazy adventures, including time travel, peer pressure, helping others, and learning to do the right thing.”
Nine-year-old Princess wrote, “My favorite characters are Lucille and Julia because they are girls. Both show God’s love by being good friends. I like to listen to Kids Corner with my brother all the time. We even listen to episodes at bedtime.”
Thaleia added a description for other parents who might like to check out Reframe Media’s program.
“Kids Corner is a fun and exciting way to learn about God. Geared for children age 6 — 12, the weekly half-hour radio program and website teach, in a contemporary way, the wisdom and truth of God to the issues and challenges that affect a child’s life.
“Through audio drama and web resources, children are not only entertained, but are helped to develop an interest in the Bible and in becoming followers of Jesus.”
Josh DeGroot, Kids Corner writer, actor and producer, was thankful to hear that God used the program—especially ‘Tommy Twotoad’—to help Eldest.
“I'm glad someone else loves Tommy Twotoad as much as I do.”
