OSJ Issues Action Alert on Immigration

November 15, 2014

The Christian Reformed Church Office of Social Justice has issued an urgent action alert seeking to inform church members of possible action on immigration that President Obama could take by the end of the year.

Administrative relief could affect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants.

“Officials say a major component of administrative relief would allow undocumented parents of American citizens or legal residents to obtain temporary work permits, according the The New York Times.

“This would allow those who have been living in the shadows our our society to come out, apply for the permit, and be able to legally work, without fear of deportation and being separated from their families."

The action alert reads, "While we support the fact that fewer immigrants will be in danger and free to come out of the shadows, we also lament that this only provides temporary relief, instead of a long term fix that can only come through Congress passing a comprehensive immigration bill. We have consistently said that the fix to this broken immigration system is in Congress and we must let our representatives know that we have not given up on pressing them to pass reform."

"We ask Congress to, instead of pushing back on executive action, please vote on bipartisan immigration reform."
