Thursday December 1
from: Justice ministry: Canadian Gathering

Four people are being nominated by each classis in Canada to attend the Canadian National Gathering in May 2023. This gathering will focus on Indigenous reconciliation, building on work of the Hearts Exchanged program. Please pray for the nomination process and for all who will be attending.

from: Resonate Global Mission: Campus ministry

“Pray for the students we are working with,” asks Brett Erickson, a Resonate partner campus minister with Geneva Campus Ministry at the University of Iowa. “Each of them is dealing with various difficult situations; we want to be able to come alongside them well and ultimately to point them to the hope that can only be found in Christ.”

ReFrame’s Chinese ministry team is developing a new e-reader app to make biblical materials available inside China. Pray for wisdom in the development process, for a successful and timely launch, and for opportunities to share this resource widely.

Calvin University requests prayers for its new president, Dr. Wiebe Boer, and the leadership team of Calvin as they seek to create a vibrant culture of Christian faith and practice on campus. Pray for wisdom, courage, and clarity. Pray for faculty and staff as they teach and disciple students. Pray that students may come to know Jesus and/or grow in their faith in him.

As we enter the season in which we reflect on the incarnate Christ, pray that we his followers will make space for him and for people of all sizes and shapes and abilities in our lives, homes, and churches.

from: Resonate: Philippines

Resonate missionaries Charles and Hensel Oh, who serve in the Philippines, ask you to pray for people living in poverty. With two major earthquakes and two major typhoons in the Philippines in the past few months, “many people have lost their homes and are struggling to put their lives back together,” said the Ohs.

We praise God for the many ways our ministry continues to grow, creating more opportunities to serve across the organization. These blessings also bring some challenges. For example, despite months of seeking, staff in Mozambique are still in need of a new program advisor. Pray that the right person with both the talent and the heart for God's work will step forward to serve in this role.

Pray for Johan and Tika, two pastors in Indonesia who have been using video programs from our Indonesian ministry partners as a Bible study for their congregation. After a lesson on Jacob and Laban (Gen. 29), they shared, “We are learning a lot from Jacob, who was able to make the best of his situation, even though it was difficult. Thank you!”

from: Faith Formation: Drawing near

Many people who might not regularly attend church come for worship services in the Advent/Christmas season. Pray that churches extend a warm welcome and hospitality as the Spirit stirs people’s hearts. As we worship Immanuel together, may visitors and church members find a shared sense of belonging and be filled with wonder that God is near.

Pray for Grace in Garfield, a Resonate-partner church plant in Chicago. Ask the Holy Spirit to continue working in and through this church to transform their local community for God’s kingdom.

Pray for our chaplains serving in prisons and for the men and women they serve. Ask the Holy Spirit to continue working through these chaplains as they provide transformative ministry in the prison system.

from: World Renew: Child health

In vulnerable areas where World Renew serves, many infants and young children do not have access to safe water or appropriate nutrition. This can lead to lifelong health issues. Please pray for these children and for the work of our partners in rural communities to educate and support families with young children in their first 1,000 days of life (pregnancy through 2 years of age).

Marc Nabie, ReFrame’s French-ministry leader, recently visited the country of Guinea, where he began a new radio partnership and shared a biblical message on the air. Pray for new listeners in Guinea as they find and respond to this programming in their region.

Resonate missionary Joel Altena, who serves with LCC International University in Lithuania, is mentoring two student leaders through a leadership development program. “We ask God to strengthen these students in their leadership and character as well as their knowledge of God,” said Joel and his wife, Hailey.

We are excitedly preparing for SERVE 2023! This year we have a capacity of over 1,000 participants across 11 states and provinces. Registration opened Nov. 1, and spots are filling up quickly. Please pray for churches and individuals as they register for SERVE 2023.

from: Calvin Theological Seminary: Christmas season

Many of our students, especially international students, are not able to travel home to be with family for the holidays. Pray for those who travel as well as for those who are apart from family during this season, that tidings of comfort and joy may overflow in their hearts this year.

Nearly 1 billion people in the world face food insecurity due to conflict, climate change, and economic downturn. But in Christ there is hope! Through village savings and loan programs, people in poverty can increase food production and income, gaining enough to eat and provide for others. Pray that life-saving programs like these will continue to flourish.

“Many young leaders feel alone and isolated. Pray that they may have opportunities to join formational communities where they can grow in the ways of Jesus,” asks Justin Van Zee, a Resonate missionary in Cambodia.

In this season we celebrate the One who came to restore all things. Pray that all who are affected by abuse will find healing, restoration, and freedom in Christ, and that our church communities will be places of peace and safety.

We give thanks for the many leaders God has been drawing to the Christian Reformed Church. Please ask the Lord to give them strength and wisdom as they move forward on their journey toward candidacy. Ask also that God will continue to send more harvest workers!

Creator, we give thanks for a season of people returning to the circle after isolating during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thankful for new opportunities challenging us to increase capacity in the area of dentistry. May we develop a strong relationship with University of Alberta contacts in dentistry and raise sufficient support for obtaining dental equipment. Creator, thank you that ENHC remains a sanctuary of hope, peace, and love.

A man in India has been a Christian for many years, listening to programs from our partners in India. He recently professed his faith publicly and donated property to a local church. Praise God for his testimony of faith in a country where many people, including him, risk persecution for their belief in Christ.

Christ entered the messiness of our world to bring healing, reconciliation, and life. Pray that he will fill our hearts and lives so that we will be emboldened to share his love and good news at Christmas and throughout the year.

We give thanks to God for the opportunity to love and serve our brothers and sisters around the world. We pray for a peaceful, joyful, and blessed Christmas with God at the center of all activities as we celebrate the birth of the Savior. We ask for peace in the midst of disaster, conflict, and other unexpected events that happen in people’s lives.

Praise God for this testimony from Cecilia, who asked for prayer for her grandson during Hurricane Ian in Florida: “There are times when I wonder if God hears me, and then something happens, like my grandson’s safety in that horrible hurricane—and I say, ‘You did hear me, God. You are so good!’”

The United Nations estimates that over 100 million persons have been forcibly displaced worldwide. As this year comes to a close, we pray for the millions of refugees around the globe who are seeking opportunity, safety, and freedom. Please pray that they find strong advocates for their basic human rights, bringing them hospitality and hope for the future.

Pray for a new cohort of young adults who recently began serving with Cohort Detroit. “I am eager to grow my faith and love for God in this cohort and to build fellowship among everyone who is apart,” said one participant.

from: World Renew: Disaster Response Services (DRS)

In late September, Fiona became the strongest hurricane to make landfall in eastern Canada after leaving widespread damage in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Soon afterward, Hurricane Ian destroyed parts of Cuba and the southern United States from Florida to the Carolinas. World Renew DRS is busy assessing how best to share Christ’s hope with people most severely affected by these storms. Please pray for the recovery of all the affected communities.

Pray for Hussein, a Today devotions reader in Tanzania who recently shared a request with our prayer ministry team: "I was a Muslim and became a believer in Christ. Because of persecution, I have run away to South Africa, but it seems I have taken a very bad step coming here, and things have become hard for me. Pray that I can find a safe group of Christians to live with and to help me grow in faith."

In some ways congregations are like families. There are good times, not so good times, laughter, tears, and, on occasion, significant strife. Pray for our consultants who work with churches experiencing challenging situations. May God provide the wisdom they need as they offer assistance and counsel. Pray too for all of our congregations as they navigate life together.

Resonate missionaries Joshua and Emily are ministering among Chinese immigrants in South Korea. “One of our goals will be to reach out to the Chinese immigrants living here and not only seek to bring them into the church but also care for their lives and help provide for their needs,” they said. Please pray for this ministry.

This year, conflict, drought, and the effects of COVID-19 have intensified the global food crisis. World Renew has plans, systems, partners, and people in place to come alongside communities experiencing hunger. This World Hunger Sunday, as we lift our prayers to the Great Provider who can accomplish abundantly more than all we ask or imagine, we ask God to nourish, protect, and bring hope to the hungry.

Please offer prayers of gratitude and praise with us for an excellent start to the school year. Please pray also for the growing impact of Kuyper as a work college as we equip students with opportunities to learn, work, and serve in their chosen fields. Pray for successful preparations and student recruitment this year as we launch a new athletic program in Fall 2023.

Pray for Vidya and Rajesh, a couple who were recently baptized in northern India. "Rajesh is addicted to alcohol, and this causes a lot of problems in their family," shared one of our partners in India. "They are in pain, but in the past year God has been bringing them peace as they have grown in relationship with him."

Give thanks for student leaders at Resonate partner campus ministries. These young leaders are discipling and mentoring students and helping to organize and run events. Ask the Holy Spirit to work in and through them for kingdom transformation on their university campuses.

from: World Renew: Disaster Response Services (DRS)

Hurricane Ian was one of the top five storms to hit Florida in the past 100 years. Many homes were left underwater from heavy rain and historic storm surge. World Renew DRS is working with partners to gather information and prepare for a long-term recovery response. Ask for God’s peace and provision for families affected by the storm.

Today we acknowledge the service and sacrifices of men and women who have served our nations in a variety of ways. Pray for the families and loved ones of people who died in military service, for all who are serving now, and for all whose lives are affected by conflict and war.

Tomorrow is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places for a Christian to live, especially since the Taliban took over the government in 2021. Ask God to strengthen Christians facing persecution there and in many other parts of the world.

Pray for believers and seekers in China who are looking online for gospel materials despite government restrictions. Pray for their safety and for their ability to find answers to the questions they may have.

Monday November 14

James and Barbarita Lee, Resonate missionaries serving in Mexico, ask for prayers for Ailed, a student who decided to lead a Bible study on her university campus. Pray for courage as she shares the gospel, and ask the Holy Spirit to draw students into this Bible study.

Tuesday November 15
from: Safe Church: Awareness and care

November is Family Violence Awareness month in Canada. During the pandemic, people affected by family violence experienced increased isolation and limited access to resources that could provide help. Please pray for victims who feel caught in cycles of violence and are struggling to discern how to go forward. Pray also for organizations that come alongside these people to provide support, assistance, and education.

Please pray for deacons as they lead and equip their congregations in community engagement and development, service and justice, benevolence/mercy and stewardship. May God grant them abundant wisdom (James 1:5), love for God and others (Matthew 22:37-39), and faith that God is able to work in them and through them (Hebrews 11:6, Phil. 2:13).

Resonate missionaries serving in the Middle East ask for prayers for people living in poverty. “The gap between the rich and the poor grows,” say these missionaries. Pray that the church can help to meet immediate needs. Ask God for creativity and strategy in addressing cycles of poverty.

Help us, Father God, to follow your call to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Help us to remember that “there is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:3-6).

Please be thinking today of chaplains who dedicate their lives to being with others in times of crisis—in the hospital, nursing home, military, corrections, and the workplace. Pray that these chaplains may have the “peace that passes understanding” in order to be the presence of Christ for others.

We thank God for our partnership with the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (CICW) in supporting our book of the year, My Body Is Not a Prayer Request, by Amy Kenny. CICW is covering the cost of up to 10 books for each congregation who hosts a book club focused on this book.

We praise and thank God for his faithfulness and mercy in our lives, and for guiding us and allowing us opportunities to serve brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. Today is Giving Tuesday, an international day of charitable giving. Nearly one billion people are experiencing food insecurity around the world due to conflict, climate change, and economic downturn. After a long delay caused by the pandemic, a group of 21 pastors from the Gereja Kristus Tuhan church in Indonesia met for five days of TLT training in September 2022 to complete their final courses. Thank God for their achievements, pray as they now train others, and pray for the 150+ TLT groups worldwide who are resuming training activities.
