Ministry Description
Paragraph
Indigenous Ministry is a response to reconciliation with Indigenous communities, grounded in justice and truth. Through staff, resources, and programs, this work seeks to educate and foster healing and wellbeing in response to Calls to Action 48, 59, and 60 of the Survivors Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
Trauma-informed staff come alongside Christian Reformed church communities as they engage in this reconciliation journey. For many, this journey begins with the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, which shares the history of Indigenous peoples and the impacts of colonialism and residential schools. Hearts Exchanged offers a deeper, eight-month learning experience within a cohort of fellow participants.
On-the-Land Learning opportunities invite church members to hear the story of the land from local Indigenous voices. In urban Indigenous ministries in Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary, this work is expressed through community, care, and connection, where tears, comfort, practical support, and even moments of celebration and dancing are all part of the journey.
The Senior Leader for Indigenous Justice and Reconciliation, Adrian Jacobs, also speaks and engages with churches across Canada, helping to guide and deepen this ongoing work.
