Seminary Professor Travels to Indonesia
Representing the H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies, Calvin University, and Calvin Theological Seminary, Dr. Karin Maag recently spent 10 days in Jakarta, Indonesia, to teach and connect with colleagues affiliated with Calvin Theological Seminary in various ways.
During her time in Jakarta, Maag’s primary focus was on teaching an intensive course at SSTRI (the Indonesian Reformed Theological College) on Reformed worship and its impact. Nearly 100 students and pastors participated in this in-person and online course, offering many engaging questions and insights. In addition to teaching, Maag reconnected with many individuals affiliated with Calvin Theological Seminary, such as alumni, visiting scholars, and colleagues hosting the International Calvin Congress in Jakarta in July 2027.
She remarked, “This intensive teaching week was an amazing opportunity to explore key aspects of Reformed worship with brothers and sisters in Christ in Indonesia!”
Maag’s tenure at Calvin University and Calvin Theological Seminary has reflected her commitment to promoting the study of John Calvin and the Reformation era and to contributing to the ongoing growth and development of scholars around the world.
Maag has served as director of the H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies since her arrival in 1997, and she was promoted to professor of history at Calvin University in 2005. She also serves as adjunct professor of the history of Christianity at Calvin Theological Seminary (since 2016), where she codirects the master of theology program. Since 2016, Maag has also served as the editor of the Calvin Theological Journal, overseeing article and book review submissions as well as providing direction and oversight for the journal’s long-term success.
