The CRCNA’s health insurance plan (known as Consolidated Group Insurance or CGI) is available for eligible church staff. The health insurance plan available through CGI is administered by Canada Life. The plan includes medical and dental coverage, and basic life insurance in the amount of $25,000. Additional life insurance in the amount of $50,000 and AD&D insurance in the amount of $75,000 are administered through RBC. The plan also includes special risk accident insurance as an alternative to the workplace safety insurance offered by provincial governments. These benefits are offered as a package and cannot be elected individually. The plan also includes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offered through Telus Health which is a confidential service that offers short-term counselling and support services to staff and their families.
The Canada Life Welcome Plan offers basic health insurance to those who are not yet eligible for provincial health care because they have recently relocated to Canada.
The monthly insurance premiums for 2025 are:
Single coverage: $261.16
Family coverage: $536.89
The monthly insurance premiums for 2024 were:
Single coverage: $237.15
Family coverage: $479.87
Churches are billed on a monthly basis, with payment due by the 5th of the month. Premiums are subject to provincial taxes in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba. Payment is received by pre-authorized EFT. The bill will include the premium for the selected level of coverage, e.g., single or family coverage. The church must collect any payment from the staff member for required premiums.
In addition, staff may choose additional Life Insurance, Critical Illness and Accident Insurance offered through Canada Life’s program called “Freedom to Choose”. This benefit is self billed by Canada Life directly to the staff member and is not part of the premiums noted above. No medical questions are asked for $25,000 of life or critical illness coverage or any amount of accident coverage. Members can apply for up to $1 million for life insurance or $250,000 for critical illness or accident insurance. All members must apply before their 65th birthday. Once coverage is in place, it will terminate at age 85 for Life and AD&D. Critical Illness will terminate at age 65. Should the staff member leave the CRCNA, the insurance remains with the member. Staff interested in this insurance must call Canada Life directly at 1-844-545-0085.
