Dordt Names Public Relations Director

July 30, 2010 — A new director of marketing and public relations has been hired and assumed her new duties at Dordt College.

Sonya Jongsma Knauss began work in Dordt’s Advancement office on July 22. She will direct and oversee media relations, advertising, promotional publications, and marketing efforts conducted by the college.

Jongsma Knauss is a Dordt alumna, graduating from the college in 1997 with a major in English and a minor in political science. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in 1999 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in journalism and mass communication.

She was employed at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, serving on the editorial board for that news organization for two years. More recently, Jongsma Knauss was editor and general manager for MilwaukeeMoms.com, a division of Journal Interactive and a branch of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“I’m excited to use what I’ve learned in a variety of news media roles to help get the word out about Dordt College,” she said.

Her parents, Calvin and Sally Jongsma, are also employed at Dordt in the roles of professor of mathematics and editor of The Voice, a Dordt news publication.

Sonya and her husband, Dan, have four children: Anneke,11; Claire, 9; Maddy, 5; and Kate, 4.
