Borgdorff Appointed as Deputy ED

Rev. Joel Boot, the interim executive director of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, today appointed Rev. Peter Borgdorff, a former executive director, to serve as his deputy.

“Peter and I will share the responsibilities of both positions rather than appointing an interim Director of Denominational Ministries,” Boot said. “This arrangement will permit greater flexibility as we provide leadership to the ministries that engage us.”

He said that Borgdorff will work with the agencies, educational institutions, and specialized ministries of the denomination, permitting him to focus on serving the Board of Trustees, synod, ecumenical relationships, and providing overall leadership to the administrative staff.

Boot asked for prayers and support from denominational staff and others as he and Borgdorff work together during this interim period.

Boot was appointed in May to a two-year term as interim executive director while the denomination searches for a replacement for Rev. Gerard Dykstra, who resigned earlier this year. Sandy Johnson, the former director of denomination ministries, also resigned shortly afterward.

Borgdorff served as executive director of the CRCNA from 2005 until his retirement in 2006. He previously served as the executive director of ministries from 1990 to 2005.
