Sonia's Call to Jesus

December 3, 2014

Sonia was heading home from a doctor’s visit, experiencing horrible pains. She just learned from the doctor that she needed an operation.

“I was crossing the street in front of the market when someone stopped me and handed me a DisquePaz card,” said Sonia. “The person introduced himself as a member of the Presbyterian Church.”

DisquePaz (Dial Peace) is a Portuguese telephone ministry produced by Back to God Ministries International and its Portuguese partner, Luz Para o Caminho (Light for the Way).

Together they partner with churches throughout Brazil to bring the gospel to people in the community, and to build the church. People can call their local DisquePaz number for a daily message and a chance to connect with a spiritual counselor or share prayer requests.

When Sonia called the number on the card, the church volunteer she talked with asked her if she attended church.

“I said no,” Sonia recalled. “I had only lived in the area for a short time.”

Sonia placed the DisquePaz card in her bag, and continued home. Two days later, when she went to open the bag again, she saw the card was there.

“The first time I called, I heard a very beautiful message,” said Sonia. “I began to call the number several times. Soon I felt like going to church. I quite enjoyed it, because everyone welcomed me. I felt such a peace in this church that I began attending every Sunday.”

Today she is baptized, said Sonia. “I am saved for the honor and glory of the Lord. It was through DisquePaz that I came to Jesus. And here I am. Hallelujah!”
