World Hunger: Advocate

The CRC both strives to feed the hungry in the short term and to address the root causes of hunger. To reform systemic injustices that keep people in hunger, Christians are called to advocate for just and equitable policies on issues that impact food security.

Foreign aid is one crucial way in which Canadian and US policies have a tremendous impact on the well-being of millions of hungry people. In addition to famine relief, both countries provide foreign aid for investment in the agricultural development of developing countries.

Your voice can make a difference in helping the hungry!  Ask your MP or Representative to make foreign aid more effective in combating hunger.

In Canada, ask your MP to make the resilience of small-scale farmers a priority for Canada’s international aid work in agricultural development. Farmer resilience to the food crisis, the financial crisis, and the climate crisis is crucial for food security in developing countries. Learn more and contact your MP.

In the US, ask your representative to support the Initiating Foreign Assistance Reform Act (H.R. 2139) to improve the US’s out-dated system of foreign aid.  This bill directs President Obama to create a national strategy for global development, which is essential for making aid more effective. Read these talking points, then contact your representative.
