Mali

The Scattered Ones: The Fulani of Mali (15 minutes/4:28 minutes) VHS and DVD
They are hard to reach. Over one million people, scattered across a land twice the size of Texas. Among them, hidden deep inside the culture of Islam, are the vanguard of God’s kingdom among these people.
These believers are the scattered ones of Mali.
So begins this story in a foreboding place. Wind whips in from the North bringing sand and echoes from ancient civilizations. Fulani tribesmen, nomads and masters at survival in one of the world’s harsher regions, practice their Muslim faith and cut out a living the best they can.
Some have voluntarily chosen to add several degrees of difficulty to their lives by walking away from Islam and into the arms of God through His son, Jesus Christ.
It’s not easy. The culture in Mali lives and breathes in rhythm with the Koran and the Mullahs. Life is lived in the shadows of the mosques.
To invite Jesus is to invite persecution.
Missionaries with Christian Reformed World Missions have chosen to identify with this land, this culture and this suffering. They offer hope and encouragement to those who, while embracing eternal life, also embrace temporal suffering.

Through the centuries, these walls have cultivated another wall: barriers in the mind against all things foreign. But walls have a way of coming down. Halls that since 1959 have resounded with policy promoting communism, socialism and friendship with the former Soviet Union. And still, Jesus overseas it all. This is a place of incongruities. Rebuilding the Walls: The Nehemiah Center of Nicaragua (11 minutes/4 minutes)
Have you ever looked 1,000 years of culture in the face? Have you ever set a goal to rebuild a nation? Have you ever planted your self in a nation torn by war … to preach peace?
Nehemiah, of Old Testament fame, dreamed of rebuilding a nation. The walls of Jerusalem were broken, and Nehemiah, with others, rebuilt the walls.
The broken was made whole.
Nicaragua is broken. This country has seen suffering on a national scale. There is so much here that needs to be fixed. God has provided a unique team of specialists who are committed to rebuilding the walls of Nicaragua. These specialists have combined their faith, passion and energy into a coalition of willing servants called The Nehemiah Center. The Nehemiah Center is not so much a place as a movement. A movement to help Nicaraguans rebuild their lives, their land and their relationship with each other and with God through Jesus Christ.
Have You Ever set a goal to rebuild a nation?
Nehemiah did. In the end, he was successful. God blessed his efforts. The walls went up, healing took place.
God is also blessing the efforts of this modern-day Nehemiah, a movement that seeks nothing less than to rebuild a nation and restore hope–eternal hope–in a traumatized but vibrant land called Nicaragua.
