Keynote Speaker

Mary Hulst serves as University Pastor at Calvin University. In addition to loving her students, preaching on campus, and serving in leadership at the university, Mary lectures around the U.S. on preaching, teaches occasionally at Calvin Theological Seminary, and consults with churches and search committees on how to listen to sermons. Mary is eager to pour into pastors who have led through one of the most challenging seasons in our shared memories. In her sessions, she will guide us in listening to the Holy Spirit and listening to each other as a way to pay attention to what God is up to in our lives.

Mary lives in Grand Rapids, MI, with her husband, Drew Kromminga, and their dog, Zoey. She has three mostly-adult step-children.

Cost of the Conference

The CRCNA’s Pastor Church Resources underwrites most of the expenses. The registration fee is $150 (CAN/US). This fee covers two hotel nights and most of your meals—beginning with supper on Tuesday and ending with lunch on Thursday. See travel information below.

Breakout Sessions

Strength Through Spiritual Habits for Body and Soul (Naps and Snacks!)

Mary Hulst
Virtual life has divorced us from our bodies and from the incarnate interaction we need with others, and God. What can we learn from scripture about how God longs to tend and nourish us, body and soul? How did Jesus live in his body and receive holistic nourishment from God?

Strength in Conflict

Dave Den Haan and Sean Baker
Many of us avoid conflict. Others relish it, but don't do much good with it. We'll illustrate practices for transforming congregational conflicts into opportunities for discipleship and witness. Learn practical skills for before, during, and after the conflict flares.

Strength in Training

Elaine May and Nate Rauh-Bieri
A framework for understanding and practicing lifelong development helps us learn and grow. God develops our character and our influence to engage in mission in our unique contexts. Reflect on how God is shaping you, identify areas in need of strength training, and leave with a personalized plan to support your development.

Strength for the One Called

Al Postma and Zach Olson
Call is strength. He called you, as a person, with talents and gifts under development. He called you as a pastor, a role shaped by service and expectations. He called you to a church, a context with a unique culture and peculiarities. Explore how God integrates the person, the role, and the context to strengthen those he calls.

An Afternoon in Albuquerque

On Wednesday you’ll have a wonderful opportunity to explore on your own or in groups to experience the beauty, culture, shopping and adventure of Albuquerque. The hotel is located in the heart of Albuquerque, Historic Old Town founded in 1706 and the center of Albuquerque's cultural district, with numerous museums, shops, galleries, and more. Supper will be on your own at your choice of the many local restaurants.

Or if you don’t feel like going out, you may choose to enjoy your free time at the hotel.

Travel Information and Grants

You will make your own travel arrangements, whether flying or driving. Travel grants are available for up to half of your travel expense. Travel grant requests are part of the registration process, you will indicate your interest and additional information will be sent by email.

Additional travel information will be sent after registration is confirmed. If you choose to rent a car in Albuquerque, that’ll be your personal expense.

Please DO NOT make any travel/flight arrangements until you have received confirmation.
