Where Business Meets Mission

Fatima learned that her business can be more than just selling her products.

Resonate Global Mission

When Fatima first started her retail business in Chinandega, Nicaragua, she felt doubtful about her management abilities.

“I didn’t know what I produced or how much I had,” reflected Fatima. “I didn’t know what I was managing.”

Fatima craved guidance in running business. This guidance came to her in the form of Jesse Rodriguez, a missionary with Resonate Global Mission who leads a program called Finances for the Kingdom at the Nehemiah Center.

Joining the program, Fatima met several other local business owners, and learned best practices that made her confident in running an effective business. Soon she had a renewed sense of pride in her business.

“I started to believe it—that I am a businesswoman,” says Fatima.

Fatima says her business has grown by 80 percent. And while Rodriguez was instrumental in helping Fatima understand the business world, he also taught her the importance of living out her Christian faith in the corporate sector.

Fatima relates how coworkers will come to work with negativity and complain that “there are no clients today, today is stressful.”

But instead of despairing when things aren’t going well at her store, Fatima says she takes “the opportunity to speak of God, so through the business we can extend God’s Kingdom.”

Fatima’s meetings with the Resonate missionary also made her realize that her business is her mission field—a place where she can proclaim God’s goodness while providing quality products to her community.

“By having a business we can teach people in different ways,” says Fatima. “Many times we believe, as I used to think, that a business is to offer a product, but . . . we can offer what God has given us: love, peace.”
