Redeemer University College has announced that — by mutual agreement between the Board of Governors and President Hubert R. Krygsman — Krygsman will step down from the office of President of Redeemer University College, effective Oct. 31, 2016.

This decision comes after several years in which Redeemer, which is located in Ancaster, Ont., has experienced significant challenges in enrollment and operating budget, and in the broader post-secondary landscape and cultural environment.

“Redeemer is grateful for the progress made under President Krygsman’s leadership,” said Karl J. Veldkamp, chair of the Board of Governors.

“He has helped preserve Redeemer’s mission and helped improve Redeemer’s financial position, program initiatives, and infrastructure despite turbulent times. We believe that these changes will continue to benefit Redeemer in the years to come."

“It has been a privilege to serve Redeemer’s Board and community,” said Krygsman. “I remain passionate and confident about Redeemer’s mission and vision for Christian university learning from a Reformed perspective, but I believe that it is time for new leadership to take the next steps to meet our challenges and advance Redeemer’s mission.”

In the coming months, Redeemer’s Board and Krygsman will work toward an orderly transition as the board launches its searches for a new president.

“Redeemer’s Board is strongly committed to Redeemer’s mission and vision,” said Veldkamp. “We look forward to working with members of the Redeemer community to appoint new leadership and to ensure that Redeemer continues to serve and strengthen our community for many years to come.”
