Sarkim has served as the coordinator of the Elsadai radio listener community in Kuningan, West Java for nearly 20 years.
Back to God Ministries Indonesian outreach team created listener communities to support new believers and listeners who live in remote regions of this vast island country.
Today the more than 260 active listener communities bring together people who listen to BTGMI Indonesian radio broadcasts.
The groups gather to discuss the messages and to worship, pray, and fellowship with one another. Because of distance and geographical terrain, some groups are unable to meet regularly, but listener coordinators travel to these remote places to encourage new believers.
“Our community members live far apart from each other,” explains Sarkim. “To visit them, sometimes I have to travel three hours by motorbike, continued by walking for two hours.”
Though the journey can sometimes be a burdensome and treacherous task, Sarkim perseveres because of testimonies he hears.
“One day I heard your message on the radio that tells about Jesus’ love for us, so much that he’s willing to sacrifice himself. Suddenly, I realized how much Jesus loves me, and I started to do all my tasks with more joy.”
Every Tuesday and Friday, the local members of the Elsadai community gather for prayer.
