God’s Big Easter Story

April 1, 2020

While many of us are confined in our homes during this Easter season because of the COVID-19 virus, Faith Formation Ministries has made available a resource to teach young people and families about the meaning of Easter.

Called God's Big Easter Story: A Holy Week Journey for Families, this online resource is based on the Holy Week section of Faith Alive's popular God’s Big Story cards boxed set (available from FaithAliveResources.org). It's also part of the Dwell at Home series of faith formation resources for families.

“This year we’ve been given a very special opportunity to encourage and equip families as they engage the Holy Week stories together in their homes, and I’m excited about that,” said Karen De Boer, creative resource developer for Faith Formation Ministries.

For many families, the stories of Holy Week may only have been heard and told in past years during the hours they were at church before getting lost amid other holiday activities such as visiting with family and friends, meal preparations, and eating chocolate, said De Boer.

“But providing families with a resource that invites them to spend time in the stories of Holy Week changes all that,” said De Boer.

From its start on Palm Sunday, April 5, Holy Week runs through Easter Sunday on April 12. And this is a time that focuses profoundly on Jesus’ ministry, including a range of emotions connected with betrayal, death, confusion, deep sadness, mourning, and abundant joy.

It is also a time rich with opportunities to teach young people about the final days Christ spent on earth -- days in which Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper, carried his cross to be crucified, and rose again from the dead.

God’s Big Easter Story is designed to provide your family with a simple, meaningful way to grow in faith together as you remember the events leading up to Jesus’ death and celebrate the hope we have in Jesus’ resurrection.
