The CRC’s Five New Missionaries

Resonate Global Mission is celebrating the appointment of five new missionaries so far this year—whom the Christian Reformed Church in North America is sending to share the gospel, disciple believers, equip leaders, and strengthen the church around the world.

"Seeing five new missionaries joining with Resonate in such a short period of time is a tremendous encouragement," said Resonate director Kevin DeRaaf. "These appointments reflect God's faithfulness, the denomination’s ongoing commitment to global mission, and the willingness of these individuals and their families to respond to God's call. We look forward to seeing how God will work through them as they serve alongside local ministry partners around the world."

Several of these new missionaries have previously served with Resonate as volunteers, partner missionaries, church planters, or staff members. Now they are bringing those experiences into new ministry opportunities around the world.

John and Loice Mondi in Uganda

John and Loice Mondi are answering God’s call to Uganda, where John will serve as a leadership developer. 

John brings decades of experience in pastoral ministry, leadership training, and intercultural mission work. Since 2018 he has served with Resonate as a local mission leader in the Great Lakes Region while also pastoring African Community Fellowship Church in Grand Rapids, Mich., since 2009.

In Uganda, John will focus on coaching and mentoring ministry leaders, facilitating leadership training groups, and helping churches strengthen their leadership structures. John will help lead Timothy Leadership Training (TLT) groups—an established Resonate training program designed to equip local leaders with practical tools for ministry and leadership. Oftentimes leaders do not have any formalized ministry or theological training, and TLT helps to address that gap.

“I have been formed and shaped to become a servant-leader focused on developing others,” said John. “My goal is to empower churches to have good leaders with practical skills and mentoring relationships so that leaders can grow in their faith, serve effectively, and reproduce those qualities in others.”

Shamma and Tabitha Lorredan Serving Haiti and the Haitian Diaspora

Shamma and Tabitha Lorredan are stepping in to serve Haiti and the Haitian diaspora living in the Dominican Republic, throughout Latin America, and in Canada and the United States. 

“Over the past several years, God has clearly shaped this calling through pastoral ministry, cross-cultural outreach, and relationships with Haitian churches,” said Shamma. “What began as ministry opportunities became a consistent pattern of open doors and confirmation. As I walked alongside pastors and leaders, I saw both the growth and the gaps, and it became clear that the Lord was leading me to step into this work more intentionally.”

In this role Shamma will be supporting Haitian pastors and leaders through training, mentorship, and discipleship so that they are better equipped to lead their churches and reach their communities. Shamma is excited to see the ripple effects of this ministry.

“As churches grow in health and stability, the impact extends beyond the church into entire communities,” he said. “Families are strengthened, new leaders are raised, and churches become consistent witnesses in the places where God has positioned them—leading to long-term transformation through the presence of strong, faithful churches.”

Eric and Judith Tuls Serving Europe

Eric and Judith Tuls previously served as Resonate partner missionaries ministering with “least reached” people groups in Europe. Having begun this spring to serve as Resonate’s regional leader for Europe and Central Asia, Eric brings years of experience in mission.

In this role Eric walks alongside Resonate’s diverse and widespread team in the region—providing mentoring and strategic coaching to maximize local impact. He also continues in his work of ministering with unreached people groups, specifically empowering local followers of Christ to reach out to their family, friends, and neighbors who don’t know Christ.

Judith fuels this work through prayer leadership and facilitating courses and coaching global leaders.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join those serving the nations within the region and particularly to engage, envision, and equip followers of Jesus to love, share, and grow in relationship with the refugee and immigrant people groups living there in the name of Jesus,” said Eric.

Micah Schuurman in Costa Rica

Micah Schuurman has been serving with Resonate as a partner missionary in Costa Rica since 2014. As he comes on staff with the mission agency this year, he said, he’s looking forward to working more closely with Resonate’s regional team in Latin America.

“For the past decade I've been a bit of an island, working solo, often reinventing the wheel when a problem arises. As I integrate with the larger Latin American team, I'm seeing opportunities for so much collaboration,” he said.

That excites him, he said, as he continues working in the various ministries he is involved in. Micah teaches Old Testament and Hebrew at ESEPA, a school for pastoral studies in San Jose, Costa Rica. Serving on the Academic Affairs Committee there, he is particularly active in helping professors and students use artificial intelligence with discernment. 

Micah also leads a chess club for his community’s young people, a Bible study for young adults, and worship services at Casa Adobe, an intentional Christian community. Moving forward, he said, he’s looking forward to working more closely with young adults, including the region’s Cohort. 

Missionary in the Middle East

Not every missionary's story can be shared publicly. One of Resonate’s new missionaries this year is serving in a region where security concerns require anonymity. Her journey began as a one-year discipleship experience through Resonate’s Cohort Middle East in 2023. She returned in 2024 to co-lead that program, and today she has stepped into a long-term role directing the very program that helped to form her faith and call her into ministry. 

“I never imagined that my year and a half of participation in the program would turn into a vocational calling—let alone a permanent move to a country across the ocean from my home,” she said. “However, God has used this program over the past several years to transform me for his service, and I have yet to find a form of ministry that excites, convicts, challenges, and draws me to Christ and his church as Cohort does.”

As the leader for Cohort Middle East, she will cultivate a supportive and Christ-centered community for participants. She will lead weekly gatherings, coordinate service opportunities with local ministry partners, mentor volunteers, help build networks of support, and guide participants as they grow in faith and cross-cultural ministry experience.
