Purpose

Financial Shalom provides grants to support CRCNA Ministers of the Word and Commissioned Pastors who face financial challenges that impede their well-being and their ministry. The goal is to help alleviate the financial barriers so our pastors experience a renewed sense of shalom that will help foster excellence in ministry.

What grants are available?

Financial Shalom provides grants to address the following concerns:

  1. Student Loan Relief: Pastors with significant student loan debt may apply for a grant. (A grant will be considered for each applicant where the total current student loan debt of the pastor—and spouse, if applicable—exceeds $30,000.)
  2. Critical Financial Needs: Pastors with specific financial burdens such as health bills, medical emergencies, mortgage payments, or other unforeseen financial crises can apply for a grant.
  3. Retirement Planning: The Christian Reformed Church in North America recently rolled out a new 403(b)(9) retirement plan that congregations in the United States can make available to Commissioned Pastors and other church staff. Financial Shalom will cover the setup fees and the first year’s administrative cost for each participating congregation. To learn more, visit crcna.org/retirement.

How do I apply?

  1. Read through the Financial Shalom Grant Application Guidelines to ensure you meet eligibility criteria.
  2. Meet with an LSS Financial Counseling financial counselor about your financial concern(s); this is a free session available to all CRCNA pastors and seminarians. (You are required to meet with LSS before you submit your application.)
  3. Note the application submission deadlines: January 15, April 15, July 15, October 15 (you can expect a decision within two weeks after the submission deadline).
  4. Complete the application for the desired grant, below, and include account statements supporting your request:
