Introduction to Report on Committee to Study Women in Office (2000)
Synod 2005 requested that excerpts from the report of the Committee to Review the Decision re Women in Office for Synod 2000, particularly the biblical summaries (see Agenda for Synod 2000, pp. 351-407, especially pp. 356-83) be posted on the CRCNA web site. This posting fulfills this synodical request, though we decided against only posting excerpts and instead posted the full report.
Of course, posting material is not a solution to anything other than to give interested persons access. In the church such access is important and to be encouraged. Therefore, synod also encouraged classes “to provide a forum for the study of this material,” and encouraged “church councils to study this material and recommend its inclusion in their adult education ministry.”
Readers of this material are encouraged to heed synod’s encouragement so that the church as a whole may continue to learn from this excellent resource.
