
Opportunity Title: Community Development Intern
Location: Jos, Nigeria
CRCNA Agency: CRWRC (Christian Reformed World Relief Committee)
CRCNA Partner Group Involved: CRWRC works in partnership with CRWM (Christian Reformed World Missions) and PWW (Partners Worldwide) in the areas of micro-enterprise, health education, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, environmental sanitation, income generation, peace building/advocacy, agriculture, and community health care. They work with different denominations and churches throughout the different states in Nigeria.
Number of Positions: 4 (two women and two men)
Expected Length of Service: 12 Weeks
Dates Opportunity is Available (approximate):
September to November, 2009 Application due by: January 14, 2009
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Learn about different aspects of community development by engaging in the work of six CRWRC partners.
2. Complete small projects with community partners as assigned by Supervisor/Mentor.
3. Attend two weeks of community development training with CRWRC partner RURCON.
4. Participate and contribute in CRWRC’s management meetings, staff training, community planning sessions, and staff devotionals;
5. Assist staff in devotionals, trainings, community planning sessions, etc;
6. Complete weekly or monthly reports regarding work.
Qualifications:
1.Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ;
2. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment;
3. Experience serving in the church and/or community;
4. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture;
5. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development;
6. Commitment to CRWRC development values;
7. Self-starter and able to work and guide own learning without constant on-site supervision;
8. Able and willing to work in a team setting;
9. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required (MS Access also preferred);
10. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support;
11. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture;
12. Able and willing to learn about a different culture and language;
13. Good oral communication and writing skills;
14. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.
Financial Requirements of Volunteer:
Estimation of $6,445 US for RT Airfare to Nigeria, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Cell Phone, and Other Personal Expenses.
