Opportunity Title:  Medical Relief Doctor for Nkhoma Hospital - Malawi

Location:  Nkhoma Hospital and Nkhoma Synod Health Centres

CRCNA Agency:  CRWRC (Christian Reformed World Relief Committee)

CRCNA Partner Group Involved:  CRWRC works in partnership with Nkhoma Synod in a variety of programs designed to provide education, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, environmental sanitation, income generation, peace building/advocacy, agriculture, and community health care.  They work with different communities through churches throughout Malawi.

Expected Length of Service: up to 4 months

Dates Opportunity Is Available (approximate):Fall 2008 for maternity leave

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Work with general out patients (dependent on prior experience)
2. Cover for a medical, surgical, pediatric or obstetrical ward and surgical operation to the level where the individual feels comfortable to perform the surgery.
3. Rotate to different departments (move to a department where he/she is comfortable. Do follow-up visits to communities with staff when clinical officer/doctor covers the other departments of the hospital requested;
4. Complete work plans and activity reports as stipulated by the hospital guidelines.
5. Provide requested reports for the CRWRC Malawi staff and CRWRC Home Office.
 
Qualifications:  
1. Licensed by the US or Canadian Medical Board and a member of good standing.
2. Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ;
3. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment; 
4. Experience serving in the church and/or community;
5. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture; 
6. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development;
7. Commitment to CRWRC development values;
8. Self-starter and able to work and guide own learning without constant on-site supervision;
9. Able and willing to work in a team setting; 
10. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support; 
12. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture;
13. Able and willing to learn about a different culture and language;
14. Good oral communication and writing skills;
15. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.
 
Financial Requirements of Volunteer:
Estimation of $6,622 US for RT Airfare to Malawi, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Living Allowance (this includes housing and food), Immunizations, Visa Costs, Telecommunication, and Other Personal Expenses.
