Position Title: Home-Based Care Volunteer

Location:  Chipoka, Malawi

Number of Positions: 2

Expected Length of Service: 6 months each position

Dates Available: October 2008 (application deadline June 21, 2008)
                            February 2009 (application deadline Aug. 21, 2008)

CRCNA Country Programs Description:  CRWRC works in partnership with the RCA (Reformed Church of America) and PWW (Partners Worldwide) in the areas of HIV/AIDS, income generation, agriculture, orphan care, community health care, environmental sanitation, income generation, peace building/advocacy, agriculture, and general community development.
Many of these programs are being carried out through a Woman in Development program.  A new home based care program is beginning implementation in March 2008 to help the women’s groups in one district provide better care for those who are sick in their communities.  This volunteer position is an exciting opportunity to assist as a counterpart to the national HBC coordinator as they work in the communities and provide training for the women’s groups and community volunteer groups. .  There will be some office work in this position and some shadowing in the first few months as part of the initial training.
 

Specific Responsibilities:
1.  Assist CRWRC’s partner NR&D in the area of Home-Based Care for individuals who are suffering from various ailments. 
2.  Complete CRWRC orientation sessions.
3.  Complete weekly or monthly reports regarding work
4.  Meet with mentor/supervisor regularly

Qualifications:
1.  Must have a basic understanding of medical terminology and current CPR certification: 
2.  Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ;
3.  Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment; 
4.  Experience serving in the church and/or community; 
5.  Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture; 
6.  Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development;
7.  Commitment to CRWRC development values;
8.  Proactive and able to work and guide own learning without constant on-site supervision;
9.  Able and willing to work in a team setting;
10. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required (MS Access also preferred);
11. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support;
12. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture;
13. Able and willing to learn about a different culture and language;
14. Good oral communication and writing skills;
15. Able and willing to travel with the HBC coordinator on a motorbike to the rural communities and also to travel by bicycle distances up to 10km;
16. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Financial Requirements of the volunteer:
Estimation of $13,760 USD  for RT Airfare to Malawi, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Monthly Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Communication, and Other Personal Expenses.
