Position Title: English Teacher
Location: Japan

CRWM Partner Group Involved: Reformed Church in Japan (RCJ)
Time Commitment: 1 week of orientation in July; 6 months on field (approximately)
Dates Opportunity Is Available: Tentatively mid-August 2008 to late January or February 2009 at minimum.

Purpose: To assist Reformed Church in Japan (RCJ) churches in their evangelistic efforts by offering English classes to people in the community; to help the volunteer discern whether he or she may be called to longer-term missionary service.
Specific Responsibilities:
FIELD RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Walk with the Lord every day by reading the Word and praying.
2. Prepare lessons and teach conversational English to persons of all age groups at various churches (usually churches belonging to the Reformed Church in Japan).
3. Attend the worship services at a Reformed Church in Japan congregation and possibly engage in some church ministries.
4. Participate in the fellowship activities of CRWM missionaries in Japan.

NORTH AMERICAN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Educate the CRCNA and others about the nature of the global church and its mission.
2. Encourage CRC churches to develop a deeper passion and involvement in international missions. Communicate the nature and value of CRWM's ministries to the CRCNA and beyond and participate in support-raising for those ministries by developing and maintaining a network of supporting churches and individuals which will provide prayer, care and financial support for the ministry.
3. Provide the CRCNA with insight and resources for ministry among minority racial/national/religious groups living in North America, about which the missionary has knowledge and expertise.
4. Facilitate reciprocal exchanges between the CRCNA and overseas churches.
Qualifications:
1. Mature Christian faith
2. Fluency in English (preferably a native English speaker)
3. At least a high school diploma
4. Preferably some basic knowledge of Japanese language and culture
5. Willingness to raise support
6. Member of the Christian Reformed Church (ordinarily)

Support Services Provided: CRCNA and the ServiceLink offices agree to provide:
* ongoing logistical and orientation support to meet the needs of the volunteers, local community, and CRCNA’s overseas staff;
* reading and orientation materials, consultation and/or visits by missionary staff when available;
* mentorship on the field by CRCNA staff;
* opportunity to help volunteers link their individual/church’s mission and vision to work being done;
* recognition in CRCNA’s various communication to supporters and volunteers.
