English Teacher

Location: Dhaka Bangladesh

CRWRC Partner Group Involved: Various

Time Commitment: A commitment of 3 - 6 months in Bangladesh, and 4 weeks of reading, orientation, and fundraising before departure.

Dates Opportunity Is Available: Opportunity dates are dependant upon staff, partner and volunteer availability. Applications are due no less than 6 months in advance of placement. Application periods close January, April, July, and October.

Purpose: Teach basics of the English language to partner's program staff. Help increase community's capacity to build sustainable programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Planning, preparation and teaching of an English language curriculum.
  2. Collaborate and work alongside CRWRC staff on the field to implement classes in the community.
  3. Ensure and maintain quality of classes taught.
  4. Prepare monthly reports on the progress of students attending the English classes.
  5. Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you;
  6. Write bi-monthly reports to individual supporters and churches.
  7. Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country;
  8. Provide CRWRC and the community with an evaluation at the end of the project.

Qualifications:

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ
  2. ESL training and at least one year of experience in teaching English as a second language or community development work preferable;
  3. At least one-year of cross-cultural experience;
  4. Compassionate, respectful of other cultures and emotionally stable.
  5. Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision in ambiguous situations.
  6. Reporting and organizational skills;
  7. Basic competence in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  8. Flexible, adaptable, and able to view life with a sense of humour.
  9. Completed long term application and resume.
  10.   Ability to pass a background check.
  11.   Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals, businesses and/or churches to give to your opportunity.

  • Estimated Travel Costs To Dhaka, Bangladesh - $1,600
  • In-Country Transportation - $350
  • Lodging ($8.00 per day) - $720
  • Food ($6.00 per day) - $540
  • Foreign Medical Insurance - $300
  • Incidentals - $400
  • Vaccinations - $300
  • Visa, Passport, Etc. - $200
  • (Tourist Trips, Gifts, Etc.) - Optional - $200

Estimated Total of Additional Funding Needed: $4,610.00

Support Services Provided: CRWRC and the ServiceLink offices agree to provide the following:
-ongoing logistical and orientation support to meet the needs of the volunteer, local community, and CRWRC's Bangladesh staff.
-Reading and orientation materials, consultation and/or visits by missionary staff
-Mentorship and supervision on the field will take place with CRWRC staff.
-An opportunity to help volunteers link their individual/church's mission and vision to work being done;
-Recognition in CRWRC's various communication to supporters and awards for the volunteers.
