CRCNA Partner Group Involved: RURCON (Rural Development Counselors for Christian Churches in Africa)
CRCNA Country Programs Description:
RURCON is a long time CRWRC partner. They provide capacity building education for Pan-African churches, organizations and individuals in implementing development programs which address the theological and social issues in communities they serve.
Dates Opportunity Is Available: January 2009 to December 2009
Expected Length of Service: 6 to 12 Months
Application Closing Date: January 10, 2009
Specific Responsibilities:
Work closely with RURCON's Advocacy Officer on developing national campaign strategies for advocacy awareness which focuses on the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and RURCON criteria for sustainable community development.
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent;
2) At least one year of experience in civil society, public policy or justice/advocacy work;
3) Excellent writing skills;
4) Ability to analyze data and to work collaboratively in a small office are critical;
5) Good oral and presentation skills;
6) Prior mission experience in a developing country;
7) Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ;
8) Able to nurture one's own faith in a sometimes isolated environment;
9) Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture;
10) Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development;
11) Commitment to CRWRC and RURCON values;
12) Proactive and able to work and guide one's own learning with little supervision;
13) Able and willing to work in a team setting;
14) Ability to submit to the culture and organizational practices outlined by CRWRC and RURCON;
15) Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required (MS Access also preferred);
16) Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support;
17) Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture;
18) Able and willing to learn about a different culture and language.
Financial Requirements of Volunteer:
6 Month Term: Estimation of $12,860 US for RT Airfare to Nigeria, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Monthly Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Field Learning Trips and Communication.
