Opportunity Title: Library Consultant

Location: Nigeria

CRCNA Ministry Involved: CRWM

Number of Positions: 1

Expected length of service:: 3 weeks to 2 months

Dates Opportunity is Available: summer of 2011 and onward

Purpose: To assist in the development of godly and competent Nigerian church leadership through library consultancy.

Specific Responsibilities:

Consult with Nigerian church, school, and library leadership to develop library resources in denominations Bible Schools and Seminaries. Examples of stated needs:
VTS Donga: “We want to request for help in cataloguing our Library books. We are presently using the Dewey Decimal classification system, but, according to the requirement of the University of Jos (for accreditation) we have to change to the Library of Congress classification system.”
Joint CRCN/NKST/RCCN request: “… a trainer to help train the librarians of our (theological) schools.”
2) Report to CRWM’s Liason for National Church Partnerships; work alongside leaders of our partner churches in Nigeria (the CRCN, RCCN, and NKST).
Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you;
Live and worship with the community during the project
Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country;
Provide CRWM and the community with an evaluation of the project;
Write a story or final report for your church and/or supporters.

Qualifications:

Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ
Trained and experienced librarian. Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system and familiarity with online resources are preferred. Experience in a university or seminary setting is recommended.
Ability to do physical work in a tropical climate and sometimes under rural conditions;
Willingness to follow the community’s leadership in the project;
Good oral and written communications skills, as well as reporting, planning and organizational skills.
Be compassionate, respectful of other cultures, and a well grounded person;
Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision in ambiguous situations;
Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Support Services Provided: ServiceLink and CRWM agree to provide:

orientation materials as well as ongoing logistics and support to meet the needs of the volunteers, local community, and CRWM’s country staff;
consultation and/or visits by missionary staff when available;
opportunity to help volunteers link their individual/church’s mission and vision to work being done;
recognition in CRWM’s various communications to supporters.

Requirements of the volunteer:

Complete and submit a CRWM volunteer application form;
Ability to pass a background check;
Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals, businesses and /or churches to give to this opportunity;
Attend an orientation session in the Home Office (when possible, or by phone);
Adhere to CRCNA Standards of Conduct.
