CRWM Nigeria Theological Educator

Opportunity Title: Theological Educator

Location:  Mkar, Nigeria

CRCNA Ministry Involved: CRWM

Number of Positions: 1

Expepcted Length of Service: 3 months

Dates Opportunity is Available: Anytime, subject to staff availability.

Purpose: To assist in the development of godly and competent leadership in the NKST, a Reformed denomination in Nigeria that got its start among the Tiv people.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Lecture in Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Mkar.
  2. Live in community with theological students, pastors, and teachers at RTS, learning from and encouraging them in their ministry vocations.  
  3. Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you.
  4. Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country.
  5. Report back to congregations and to individual supporters about the work of CRWM and our partners. 

 Qualifications

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ.
  2. Minimum of MDiv, ThM or equivalent; DMin or PhD preferred.
  3. Ability to work in a remote area and sometimes under difficult conditions.
  4. Willingness to follow the community’s leadership in the project.
  5. Good oral and written communications skills, as well as reporting, planning and organizational skills.
  6. Compassionate and respectful of other cultures.
  7. Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision in ambiguous situations.
  8. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Support Services Provided: ServiceLink and CRWM agree to provide:

  • Orientation materials.
  • Ongoing logistical support.
  • Support and assistance with fund-raising, if desired.
  • The support of CRWM field staff and partners while on the field. 
     

Requirements of the volunteer:

  1. Complete and submit a CRWM volunteer application form;
  2. Pass a background check;
  3. Raise prayer and financial support by inviting churches and individuals to give to this opportunity;
  4. Attend an orientation session in either Grand Rapids, MI or Burlington, ON;
  5. Adhere to CRCNA Standards of Conduct.

Financial Obligations of the Volunteer:  please note that costs are estimated, per person, and listed in US funds.
Estimation of $4750 US for RT Airfare to Nigeria, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Living Costs, Visa Costs, Cell Phone, and Administrative Expenses.
Note that some costs will vary, based on the length of stay.

Additional Costs – depending on each individual, may include

  • Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond date of return)
  • Vaccinations
  • Required prescription medication.
