CRWRC Training Program Volunteer


Position Title:  Training Program Volunteer

Location: Catacamas, Olancho, Honduras

CRCNA Ministry:: CRWRC

CRWRC Partner: Diaconia Nacional

Number of Positions: 1 or a couple

Expected Length of Service:  13 Months or 56 Weeks (Time includes orientation)

Dates Opportunity Is Available:  Opportunity dates are dependant upon staff, partner and volunteer availability. Applications are due 4 - 6 months in advance of placement.

Purpose: Assist partner to with its diaconal training program.     

Specific Responsibilities:   

  1. Learn the regional, country, and community context and culture
  2. Visit and learn about the all the communities where Diaconia Nacional works throughout Honduras
  3. Assist in training Christian Reformed Church leaders and deacons in community development and ecclesiastical subjects.
  4. Assist national director in identifying new local donors interested in Diaconia’s work
  5. Participate and contribute in Diaconia Nacional meetings, staff training, and staff devotionals
  6. Complete monthly reports regarding work
  7.  Meet with mentor/supervisor bi-weekly 

Qualifications:

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ, who is a Canadian or US resident
  2. Bachelors degree in related area
  3. Ability to work in a team environment
  4. Some experience in teaching, a plus
  5. Capable of living in a cross cultural setting with a host family
  6. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment
  7. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture
  8. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development
  9. Able to submit to the direction and supervision of management staff of Diaconia Nacional
  10. Must be highly flexible and open to changes in the position or work as circumstances dictate
  11. Able to work under difficult weather conditions (extremely hot)
  12. Willing to do work and teach in appropriate ways which can be sustained by partner/community after volunteer has left. 
  13. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture, and dealing with cultural stress.  
  14. Able to submit to the culture and organizational practices valued by CRWRC and Diaconia Nacional.
  15. Good oral communication and writing skills
  16. Some proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  17.  Experience in translating from Spanish to English, a plus.
  18. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support.

Requirements of the Volunteer:

  1. Complete and submit a volunteer application form, resume/CV and Volunteer Profile
  2. Provide a current (within 2 years) criminal background check; including a vulnerable sector search
  3. Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals, businesses and/or churches to give to this opportunity;
  4. Attend an orientation session in the Home Office (when possible, or by phone)
  5. Adhere to 'CRCNA Standards of Conduct', 'CRCNA Crisis Management Policy' and any other applicable policies and/or procedures

Financial Obligations of  the volunteer: please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds
13 Month Term: Estimation of $15,403 USD for RT Airfare to Honduras, RT Airfare to Florida for HEART Institute Training, Transfers, In-country Travel, Food, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Monthly Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Field Learning Trips, and Communication.

Additional Costs - depending on each individual

  • Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond date of return flight)
  • Communication (i.e. cell phone etc.)
  • Tourist trips - if so desired
