Mission & Values

Mission

To serve the members of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC), and other Christians, by providing them with “one-stop” information and resources concerning available volunteer opportunities. ServiceLink assists CRC agencies and their partners by engaging volunteers in addressing the identified needs of their ministries. These tasks are carried out in response to the biblical mandate of being the body of Christ and participating in His ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:11-21).

Values

ServiceLink values appropriate placement and the development of volunteers. This means that the opportunity meets both the needs of the ministry as well as utilizes the God-given gifts of the volunteer.

S – to serve out of our love for God and others, and put His love into action,

Our hope is that there will be specific results when a volunteer is placed. They are as follows:

1. That the ministry served was encouraged by the contributions of the volunteer, resulting in the creation of new opportunities for service.

E – to encourage and equip each other to develop and use our gifts/skills,

2. That the ministry and the volunteer feel blessed by the new relationships they developed, allowing them to experience renewed hope.

3. That through this opportunity the volunteer is transformed and motivated to continue serving within his/her own church and/or local community.

R – to respect each person and community to build their God-given potential and dignity,

4. That the volunteer be motivated to continue supporting the ministry he/she volunteered with, through prayer, advocacy and financial contributions.

The evaluation of placement is approached from two angles:

V – to volunteer our time and skills in gratitude to God,

1. Was the assigned task carried out appropriately? Was the ministry satisfied with the work that was done?

E – to extend the presence of Christ by being His hands, heart and voice.

2. Did the volunteer come home with a sense of satisfaction? What did the volunteer learn and experience during this opportunity that can be used in their life, within their church and/or in their community? Was the experience a fulfilling and God-glorifying one?
